And I have ended up watching some truly horrible films as a result. Actually I do it because I chose to watch them based on the fact that there were actors I liked in the main roles. Sometimes films start out terrible and get better. I watch a film once because I believe in giving a film the benefit if the doubt. Lol Harry, yes I have replenshied my toothpaste rations, and the first thing I did when I got home was brush my teeth LOL. It’s well made and hits all of the right emotional notes it stays with you and has repeat viewing value. It’s not my favourite movie, nor do I think it’s either of the leads’s best film (IMO Anand is Rajesh Khanna at his best and Mausum is Sharmila Tagore at her best) but Amar Prem is still one of the good ones. It’s a bit heavy handed with its message and does start to drag a bit after the halfway mark but it seems still a good film. I like it when there’s a reason for the characters to suffer, and being unable to have children doesn’t seem like a good enough reason for all of the suffering that Pushpa is forced to face. Please explain to me this woman’s immense capacity for enduring pain-as far as I know even the strongest person has a limit to how much pain they can endure before they finally snap.Īlso the more I watch it the more I think that it would have been interesting to see Pushpa’s character have at least some faults (even just one). We never see any of her shortcomings or bad points- instead she’s portrayed as a perpetual victim of fate, who keeps on giving. She has no desire for revenge against her husband (not eve a little?) after everything he did to her–even when presented with the chance she doesn’t take it. I mean, how is she able to just give and give without getting tired? Is it because she’s been treated so cruelly, that she is able to love and forgive without limit? Her ability to empathize seems never-ending to me. It’s just that when I watch certain questions are raised in my mind with regard to her resolve and stoicism. I know that this is a work of fiction and that movies tend to have exaggerated characters but it still bothers me–she’s such a perfect character, too perfect.ĭon’t get me wrong, I really like this film (if I didn’t I wouldn’t watch over again).
Rajesh khanna movie amar prem movie#
But then again, I suppose the movie would have been quite different if they had ended up together, and it probably wouldn’t have been as memorable as it is.Īnother thing: I don’t understand how Pushpa, who is forced to suffer through the most horrible accusations and situations, never loses her inner purity and her ability to love unconditionally.
It really annoyed me that Pushpa and Anand didn’t try to be together–when Anand’s brother in-law tells Pushpa to stop seeing Anand, why couldn’t she have said no? And why couldn’t Anand have put up more of a fight when Pushpa told him they couldn’t see each other anymore? The first time I watched the film this slipped by me, but now that I’ve seen the film multiple times this realization bothers me every time I watch the movie. Here is a clip of “chingade koi bhadke” you can decide whether the music is nice or just boring.
(My favourite is “raina beete jaaye” but I also like “chingade koi bhadke”) But after having seen the film many times now, I can appreciate that most of the songs flow with the narrative of the film, and the compositions are great, they add to the ambiance of the film. When I first watched the film I did not care much for the music, I thought it was kind of boring.
I’ve never been a huge fan of his but after seeing him in this film I think I’ll have to watch some more of his films and reassess my opinion of him. His portrayal of the wounded, guarded but loving Anand Babu was well done. Would the character of Pushpa be as memorable as she is if another actress had played the part? Maybe, but all I know is that I am impressed with her performance in this film. (yes, I know I’m biased ). Especially Sharmila Tagore, she has few lines but she still manages to express all of her character’s emotions thorough her eyes she really breathed life into her character. First of all I have to say that the acting in this film is awesome.
